The St. Elijah Church in Warren, Ohio hosted the first Lenten Vespers on the eve of Great Lent, Sunday, February 26, 2012, Forgiveness, or Cheesefare Sunday. Serving were V. Rev. Stavrophor Janko Rajlich, dean of the Cleveland Deanery, V. Rev. Stavrophor Dragan Filipovic, V. Rev. Dragomir Tuba, Protonamesnik Milovan Katanic and host priest Rev. Dragan Goronjic.
Each year, Orthodox Christians around Southern California break from their routine of worshiping in the Divine Liturgy at their regular churches to witness something special on the first Sunday of Great Lent. The canonical Orthodox Christian Bishops of the West Coast began the tradition of celebrating the Divine Liturgy together on this day in 2008 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles, California. In 2012, the tradition returned to its roots, as our hierarchs gathered here once again to celebrate the “Sunday of Orthodoxy”—the restoration of the holy icons to the Church once and for all in the ninth century.
His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch served on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in Belgrade's monastery of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple, while Their Graces vicar Bishops - Atanasije of Hvosno and Andrej of Remesiana served in the church of the Ascension of the Lord in Belgrade, and in Zemun's church of Holy Trinity respectively.
Gnjilane - On the first week of the Great Lent - the Sunday of Orthodoxy - Bishop Teodosije of Raska-Prizren served the Holy Liturgy in the monastery of Draganac near Gnjilane with the concelebration of protosyngellos Kiril and hieromonk Ilarion. About forty believers participated in the Liturgy and later partook the Holy Communion.
