Congratulatory message of Serbian Patriarch Porfirije on the occasion of the Feast of the Resurrection

Published On: 30/03/2024

His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije extended congratulations on the occasion of the Feast of the Resurrection of Christ to Pope Francis, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Santo Gangemi, Archbishop of Belgrade Ladislav Nemet, other dignitaries of the Roman Catholic Church, the Reformation Churches and all brothers and sisters celebrating the Feast of feasts on 31 March 2024. In the Patriarch’s message, among other things it is stated:

Now have all things been filled with light – Heaven and earth, and the nether regions.
Let all creation, therefore, celebrate the rising of Christ,
Wherein it hath been established.
(Paschal Canon, Ode III)

Rejoice! (Mt. 28:9)

With these words, the Risen Savior greeted the Myrrh-bearing Women, but the truth revealed to them also reverberates in all our hearts. This marvelous greeting – the triumph over tyranny of death and transience, which has shown forth through Christ – forms the foundation of the entire Christian identity. It is precisely through this Jesus’ victory that we all receive the adoption as sons – from Adam through Abraham and the descendants of the tribes of Israel, through the apostles and apostolic disciples, fathers and teachers, all the way to us today, without omitting the future generations. The love of the Father is immeasurable, as He sends His Only Begotten Son into history for the sake of fallen humankind, so that He may clothe us in our primal raiment through His blood sacrifice. The obedience of the Son to His Father is perfect, even unto the death of the cross (Phil. 2:8). The power of the Spirit is unmatched, through Whom the Father raises His Son, trampling death, reestablishing human nature in Christ, and renewing the entire creation.

In the joy of the Resurrection of Christ the Lord, which delivers us from death, We cordially greet You proclaiming: Christ is risen – Indeed He is risen!
