With the blessing of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije, a festive spiritual program was held on 14 November 2025 in the Crypt of the Church of Saint Sava on Vračar to mark the Feast of the Holy Unmercenaries and Wonderworkers Cosmas and Damian, the patrons of physicians, pharmacists, and all medical personnel.

The program, organized by the Office for Missionary Activity of the Church of Saint Sava, was attended by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije, His Grace Vicar Bishop of Moravica kyr Tihon, numerous clergy, as well as a large number of physicians, pharmacists, healthcare workers, students, and faithful.

After the opening chant performed by the Choir of the Church of Saint Sava under the artistic direction of Dr. Katarina Stanković, moderator Biljana Obradović welcomed all who had gathered to celebrate together the Holy Physicians Cosmas and Damian and to give thanks to God for all who serve humanity today in the field of medicine.

Patriarch Porfirije then addressed the assembly with an archpastoral message, reminding those present that every true practice of medicine is unthinkable without self-sacrificial love for one’s neighbor, and that Christ is the most perfect Physician of soul and body, to Whom both the physician and every person entrust themselves in their weakness. His Holiness encouraged physicians and medical personnel to preserve faith, hope, and love even in the most difficult moments of caring for the sick, bearing witness to the light of the Risen Christ.

Continuing the program, the chanters of the Church of Saint Sava sang the troparion and kontakion to the Holy Unmercenaries and Wonderworkers Cosmas and Damian. Afterward, Professor Dr. Radisav Šćepanović addressed the gathering, speaking about the relationship between the Church and medicine from the earliest times and emphasizing that the Church recognizes in the physician a co-worker in God’s work – one who, through knowledge, dedication, and compassion, participates in the mystery of healing.
In the artistic portion of the program, special attention was drawn by the inspired recitation of verses by Marko Milošević, who with his warm and composed voice performed the spiritual songs “Grant, O God,” “Sufficient,” and “The Coat.”

In an atmosphere of prayer and gratitude, the faithful once again bore witness to their reverence and love for the Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian, as well as their gratitude to all contemporary physicians and medical workers who, following their example, understand their profession as a service to both God and humankind.

At the conclusion of the festive spiritual program, a reception was held in the Parish Hall of the Church of Saint Sava, during which physicians, medical staff, clergy, and faithful remained in brotherly conversation and shared fellowship.
