His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije presided over the Divine Hierarchical Liturgy at the Church of Saint Sava in Vračar on 16 August 2026.
 
Following the reading of the Gospel passage about the unforgiving servant (Matthew 18:21–35), His Holiness the Patriarch delivered the following homily:
 
— The Kingdom of God is forgiveness; the Kingdom of God is reconciliation; the Kingdom of God is love. God is all of this, and therefore, from His perspective, from the perspective of His love, there is no possibility that He would withhold anything from us, that He would not forgive us, that He would not forgive what we owe Him, that He would not forgive our debts. That is why we say every day: Lord, our Father, forgive us our debts, but there is one prerequisite: as we forgive our debtors.
 
— This is precisely what today's Gospel story, this passage from the Gospel according to Matthew, is about... Unfortunately, my dear ones, every one of us – with exceptions being made – frequently, daily, act just like this unfortunate debtor whose debt of ten thousand talents was forgiven. Countless times we first ask God to forgive our debts, and He forgives us, while we feel in our hearts, in our souls, that the Lord has had mercy on us, that He has looked upon us. But then, when we are called to confirm that this forgiveness of God, having touched our hearts, has brought about a transformation in us, has softened us, our souls and our hearts, this does not happen. At the first opportunity, we display vanity and pride; we show that we are not merciful, that we are arrogant toward our fellow human beings. Therefore, it is important, it is necessary that we forgive everyone everything in our hearts, for this is the prerequisite; indeed, this is the space, the place in which God's forgiving, all-forgiving mercy and compassion toward us are manifested—in response to every one of our failings, every one of our falls, every one of our sins.
 
— May the Lord grant that we not be like this debtor whose debt of ten thousand talents was forgiven, but that we may always forgive everyone everything, so that the Lord may not only forgive us, but also caress us, love us, and embrace us countless times more than we could ever imagine, hear, or see with our spiritual or bodily eyes — His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije said.
