Patriarch Porfirije with his scholarship recipients from Kosovo and Metohija
The Paschal stay of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije in Kosovo and Metohija reached its most joyful moment on Bright Monday, when, at the Monastery of Visoki Dečani, after the Holy hierarchical Liturgy, he met with his scholarship recipients – young students from Kosovo and Metohija, spiritual offspring of Saint Sava.
Addressing the youth, the Patriarch emphasized that the essence of our existence is for Christ to be in the first place in our lives, because when He is first, everything else will fall into its proper place. He instructed the scholarship recipients that faith in Christ reminds us that we are not transient, but created for eternity in which God reigns.
He particularly highlighted the significance of Sima Igumanov, who, being born in Kosovo and Metohija, understood that he should not keep anything for himself, but left everything to the Church for Christ’s sake. The Patriarch explained that today the Church strives, through the love and legacy of Sima Igumanov, to distribute assistance justly where it is most needed, so that love may continue to multiply.
On behalf of all the students, Đorđe Ilić from Kosovska Mitrovica expressed gratitude to the Patriarch in carefully chosen words. He thanked His Holiness for the continuous support and fatherly care he shows toward the youth in Kosovo and Metohija, emphasizing how much the Patriarch’s support means for their continued education and survival.
The meeting proceeded in the spirit of Paschal joy, accompanied by the Patriarch’s message to the young people to always choose Christ, who reveals love as the only true meaning of life.
From the Sima Igumanov Fund, His Holiness distributed one hundred scholarships to pupils and students who have permanent residence in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija.
This ceremonial event was attended by: His Eminence Metropolitan of Raška-Prizren kyr Teodosije; Vicar Bishop of Novo Brdo kyr Ilarion; Hegumen of Dečani, Archimandrite Sava; Hegumen of Crna Reka, Archimandrite Andrej; and Archimandrite Danilo, Director of the Patriarchal Administrative Office.
