Patriarch Porfirije met with Patriarch Tawadros II
On 4 May 2025, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije met at the Parish House of the Church of Saint Sava on Vračar with His Holiness Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark Tawadros II, the Primate of the Coptic Orthodox Church (non-Chalcedonian), who is a guest of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
His Holiness Tawadros II had previously attended the Holy Liturgy at the Church of Saint Sava celebrated by His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije, with the concelebration of the clergy from his respective Archdiocese. In a cordial conversation, the two Patriarchs exchanged views on the life of the Church amid trials, the witness of faith in the modern world, the situation of Christians in Egypt, and the significance of the Resurrection of Christ as a source of hope and renewal. In his welcoming remarks, Patriarch Porfirije recalled the historic visit of Saint Sava to Egypt, emphasizing that the first Serbian Archbishop recognized the sanctity of that ancient land and its significance in the history of salvation.
Attending the reception on the Serbian side were Their Graces Vicar Bishops Aleksej of Hvosno, Petar of Toplica, and Tihon of Moravica; Archimandrite Nektarije, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church; and Protopresbyter Đorđe Stojisavljević, Head of the Cabinet of the Serbian Patriarch. Accompanying Pope Tawadros II were Their Graces Bishops Giovanni Ava Shenouti of Central Europe and Fam Ad Malak Sami Tadros Hama of Minya; Monk Emanuel Elmokharki, Secretary to Patriarch Tawadros; Deacon Youssef; Mr. Basel Salah, Ambassador of Egypt to Serbia; and Mr. Ibrahim Hamza, First Secretary of the Egyptian Ambassador.
