The Tropos Choir from Athens chants at the all-night vigil which is to be served by Patriarch Porfirije on the occasion of the Presentation of the Lord
On 14 February 2023, on the eve of the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije will serve an all-night vigil, beginning at 8 p.m., in the Crypt of the Church of Saint Sava (dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr Prince Lazar), where the Athenian Tropos Choir will sing together with the choir of united Serbian chanters.
The Tropos Choir is considered one of the best choirs, and, according to many connoisseurs, the best choir chanting ancient ecclesial, Byzantine chant. Konstantinos Angelidis, a church music teacher and theologian, founded the choir at the end of 2005 in Athens in order to study and promote Byzantine church music. The choir chanted at divine services and performed at concerts in more than twenty countries. The founder and members of the choir are especially proud of their chanting at worship in the monasteries of Mount Athos, the Holy Land, and the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Sinai. This choir has recorded and released 29 compact discs with masterpieces of the classical chanters’ repertoire from the 13th century to the present day.
