Patriarch Porfirije and Bishops Teodosije, Heruvim, Stefan and Ilarion officiated divine service in the church of Saint Sava
On the Sunday after Theophany, 21 January 2024, in the memorial church of Saint Sava on Vračar, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije presided over the divine liturgy, with the concelebration of Most Reverend Hierarchs: Teodosije of Raška-Prizren, Heruvim of Osečko Polje and Baranja, Stefan of Remesiana, and Ilarion of Novo Brdo.
Also serving were Protopresbyters: Predrag Prodić, Nenad Jovanović, Dragan Šovlјanski, and Bogolјub Ostoјić (Metropolitanate of Zagreb-Ljubljana); Presbyters: Dalibor Stojadinović, Branislav Kličković, and Milan Stojković (Diocese of Raška-Prizren); as well as Protodeacons: Dragan Radić, Radomir Vrućinić, Mladen Kovačević, and Vojislav Nikolić. With the blessing of His Holiness the Patriarch, after reading the Gospel, the sermon was delivered by His Grace Bishop of Raška-Prizren kyr Teodosije, who emphasized the greatness of the personality and significance of Saint John the Baptist in the Economy of our salvation. He particularly highlighted the importance of Forerunner’s call to repentance, a call that Christ the Savior Himself later addressed to people: Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! Repentance, according to Bishop Theodosius, is the transformation of man and his return to his Heavenly Father, i.e., the Father's Home – the Church, where man can be saved.
In addition to the multitude of faithful people, children from Kosovo and Metohija, as well as children from Baranja, participated prayerfully in the holy Eucharistic gathering. Around sixty Serbian children from Orahovac, Velika Hoča, Goraždevac, and Kosovo Pomoravlje, along with their mentors, traveled to Belgrade on 19 January 2024, to be guests of His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije on the second day of his patron saint’s day celebration. They were joined by children from Vukovar. After the Holy Liturgy and a joint photo session with their spiritual father and host, His Holiness the Patriarch, they all went to the Parish House of the church of Saint Sava on Vračar, where they were warmly welcomed with a festive table. On this occasion, the dearest guests of His Holiness, together with our well-known actor Milan Vasić, sang a few befitting songs as an expression of gratitude for the love of their host. After the lunch, there was an exchange of gifts.
At the end of this blessed gathering and sharing in joy and love, His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije conveyed his warmest words of paternal care and love to his dearest guests, both for them and for all their loved ones living and persevering in their centuries-old hearths in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as throughout the plains of Baranja. All the children, as well as everyone present, returned to their homes grateful to God and their good father and host, His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije, for all the joy of that day and the blessings they had received.
