Patriarch Porfirije visited the Cathedral Church of Saint Sava in Manhattan

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije, accompanied by clergy and members of the administration of the New York Church-School Congregation and Parish, visited the Cathedral Church of Saint Sava in Manhattan and acquainted himself with the progress of the renovation and reconstruction work.

The Patriarch stated that over the past twelve months, since his last visit to this Church and the first time in seven years he served the Holy Liturgy here, great effort has been invested, which has brought visible progress in the work. The day after, following the Holy Liturgy, which began at 9 o'clock, His Holiness presided over the meeting of the New York Church-School Congregation.

The Cathedral Church of Saint Sava in Manhattan, in the immediate vicinity of the Empire State Building, is one of the most beautiful religious buildings in New York. Through the efforts of Saint Bishop Nikolaj and then-Bishop of America and Canada Dionisije, it was acquired in 1943 from the Episcopal Church, since when it has served as a spiritual gathering place and refuge for thousands of refugees and immigrants arriving in New York after the Second World War.
