His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije sent a congratulatory message on 6 October 2024 to His Excellency Archbishop and Metropolitan of Belgrade Ladislav Nemet, with the following content:

Your Excellency Archbishop,

Good news spreads quickly and travels far. Thus, today, here in Montreal, where We are on a canonical visit to the Serbian Orthodox community, We received with delight the joyful news that His Holiness Pope Francis has announced that, among others, You will be appointed a cardinal on 8 December 2024. We extend Our heartfelt congratulations to You, and We thank His Holiness for this decision, which reflects the recognition of Your work in the Roman Catholic Church and, as such, brings significance not only to You personally but also to our homeland, Serbia. Once again, We congratulate You and wish You many years of service to your Church in good health and every blessing! Many and blessed years!
