Patriarch Porfirije attends celebration of the Serbian Armed Forces Day
His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije attended, on 23 April 2026, the ceremony held on the occasion of the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces in the Grand War Hall of the Old General Staff in Belgrade.
His Holiness the Patriarch was welcomed by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Bratislav Gašić, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Milan Mojsilović.
On that ceremonial occasion, the Minister of Defense Mr. Bratislav Gašić, addressed those present, emphasizing the importance of the Serbian Armed Forces as one of the pillars of statehood, as well as their historical role in preserving the freedom and dignity of the Serbian people.
The ceremony was also attended by His Grace Vicar Bishop of Lipljan kyr Dositej, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ms. Ana Brnabić, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Dr. Đuro Macut, members of the Government, and numerous distinguished guests from public and social life.
The Serbian Armed Forces mark their holiday on 23 April in remembrance of the day in 1815 when the Second Serbian Uprising was launched, which represents one of the key turning points in the creation of the modern Serbian state and its army.
