Bratunac: Patriarch Porfirije to serve Holy Liturgy and memorial service for Serbians killed in Birač and Middle Podrinje
His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije will serve the Holy Liturgy and memorial service for the Serbians who perished 32 years ago in Birač and Middle Podrinje on 6 July 2024, in Bratunac.
Blječevo, Gniona, Osmače, Potočari, Karno, Vijgor, Osredak, Čumavičje, Zalazje, Ratkovići, Brežani, Zagoni, Krnjiči, Sase, Magašiće, Ježeštica, Podravanje, Fakovići, Boljevići, Bjeloavac, Sikirić, Kravica, Metaljka, Rupovo Brdo, Bracan, Vandžići, Donja and Gornja Kamenica, Glođansko Brdo, Kozjak, Maskalića Potok, Široki Put and Trešnjica are just part of the list of places of suffering in the Middle Podrinje and Birač regions where thousands of innocent Orthodox Serbians were brutally killed over three decades ago.
Remembering the martyrs who innocently suffered at the thresholds of their homes, the pious people from all Serbian regions traditionally gather at the church-people assembly called Lest We Forget in front of the church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos in Bratunac, where, again this year, on Saturday, 6 July, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije will serve the Holy Liturgy and memorial service for the Serbians who suffered in Birač and Middle Podrinje.
The area of Middle Podrinje and Birač is among the largest places of suffering of the Serbian people, who here renewed the vow of Saint Prince Lazar that the earthly is but a transient kingdom, and the heavenly always and forever – words of Patriarch Porfirije that best describe the struggle and suffering of the Serbians of Bratunac. About the scale of the suffering, the plans and implementation of genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Orthodox population in the municipalities of the Birač region, about the most heinous crimes for which no one has yet been held accountable before earthly courts, details are given in the report published on the Bratunac Municipality website at the following link:
