Testimony of the Suffering of Orthodox Serbs in the Bihać Krajina
The documentary film Garavice – an invaluable testimony of the suffering of tens of thousands of Orthodox Serbs in the Bihać Krajina
Tonight, several hundred interested individuals filled the Small Hall of the Belgrade MTS Arena to capacity for the premiere screening of the documentary film Garavice by author Dragan Radović from the Forgotten Roots Foundation. A large number of viewers even stood to watch the film – a testimony of the suffering of the Serbian Orthodox people in Bihać, Cazin, Velika Kladuša, Bosanska Krupa, and Bosanski Petrovac during the Second World War. The author uncovered an unknown and long-hidden truth with a film based on more than three thousand documents (court judgments, interrogation transcripts, reports, proclamations...), as well as the oral testimonies of 27 survivors, 15 of whom are featured in the film. The film is an undeniable testimony of the suffering of tens of thousands of Serbian martyrs, in whose severe and systematic liquidations not only adult men, Muslim and Croatian Ustashas, but often also members of their families, participated. Garavice near Bihać is a place of great suffering for the Serbian people in the Second World War, a place of martyrdom that was not spoken about and, unfortunately, is little known.
Surviving witnesses of the atrocities described in the film also attended the Belgrade premiere: Mićo Kovačević, Žarko Gluvajić, and Mićo Kopanić with their families.
