Academician Darko Tanasković – the beacon of the Serbian intellectual aristocracy

Објављено 12.12.2022
His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije will open the forum dedicated to the work of Darko Tanasković with a welcome address entitled "Academician Darko Tanasković – the beacon of the Serbian intellectual aristocracy", which will be held on Wednesday, 14 December 2022, at 6 p.m. in the "Youth Forum" Club of the Cultural Center of Novi Sad.

Bishop of Bačka Prof. Dr. Irinej Bulović, Prof. Dr. Nenad Kecmanović, Prof. Dr. Mile Bjelajac, Prof. Dr. Željko Simić, Academician Darko Tanasković, and panel moderator Aleksandar Đurđev will participate in the program. The forum is organized by the Institute for Political Networking.

There are few people, not only in Serbia but also in Europe and the world, who can boast of being among the best university professors, diplomats, writers, and literary translators at the same time. There are even fewer of those who are acknowledged by the Muslim world to know Islam better than most members of this religion. Few can be proud of the fact of being successful ambassadors of their country in two completely different worlds, such as Turkey and the Vatican, and of having left both places as friends of their hosts and as welcome guests in the future. Those who have received decorations from the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Holy See, and the Knights of Malta can be counted on the fingers of one hand. In any country, a man with these characteristics would be considered a pure national treasure worthy of preservation and appreciation. Such a man is Darko Tanasković, a Serbian university professor, Academician, writer, literary translator, diplomat, Islamologist, and philologist-orientalist. A man who has been for decades selflessly passing on his knowledge not only to students but also to the general public through his texts, which were often of a prophetic character, and always in the service of protecting state and national interests. We should not forget his impeccable diplomatic career, which is something that not only him personally but also the entire nation should be proud of, because it had the privilege of being represented in the brightest way by a true erudite, a man with a refined sense of tact, a person of aristocratic manners and demeanor, and a polyglot who speaks Arabic and Turkish equally well as French, Italian, English, and Russian.

The least that a man like Darko Tanasković deserves from domestic intellectuals and the broader public in general is recognition for his creativity and effort, and that is going to be arranged by the Institute for Political Networking on Wednesday, 14 December 2022 at 6 p.m. in the Cultural Center of Novi Sad. The fact that the true representatives of the Serbian spiritual and intellectual elite – such as Bishop of Bačka Prof. Dr. Irinej Bulović, Academician Prof. Dr. Dragan Simeunović, Prof. Dr. Marko Parezanović, Prof. Dr. Mile Bjelajac, Prof. Dr. Željko Simić and moderator of the forum Aleksandar Đurđev – will participate in the program confirms the fact that this forum will truly be a place where wise thoughts and actions will be formed. As befits a hospitable and self-aware nation like Serbian, it is time to repay the Colossus of Serbian intellectual thought with this kind of recognition during his lifetime, because his works are already immortal and will represent an unextinguished beacon for future generations.
